Japan City Food Court @ Westfield Chatswood

I've always loved visiting Japan City and browsing through the lovely tea sets, sake sets and bowls.

Now there's even more reason to visit, with the opening of the Japan City Food Court in Westfield Chatswood. The shop is located where Borders used to be so it is a huge place packed with a wide range of knick knacks, Japanese dinner sets and even furniture.

There are nice little dining booths inside and also a covered outdoor balcony area. Although it's part of the actual store, the way they've designed it provides diners with a bit of privacy during their meal. I personally really like this concept store. It's slightly pricier than your average food court Japanese but everything is freshly cooked so the price is worth it.

Service is quick so it's a great place to grab a bite to eat before heading off to Hoyts for a movie.
The Japan City Food Court is located on one side of the enormous Japan City showroom/store.
As you walk through the food court you'll see a dessert area, teppanyaki counter, tempura counter, noodle bar, sushi train and a tea place at the back. There is a lot to chose from. The only downside for me is that you have to go to each counter to order and you then receive these big round buzzer things. After going to 3 different counters, my hands were quite full with the buzzers and loose change. Maybe they could introduce ordering stations or those touch screen menus in each booth so diners can just order once rather than multiple times.

The classic udon came in a massive bowl. To be honest I've had better udon from other Jap places. This one is not exceptional but good enough to satisfy an udon craving.
Of course we had to order the teppanyaki Japanese sausage, which to us was basically hotdog :) I know there are some people who don't like hotdog but I really love hotdogs, especially the grilled/bbq hotodogs from home and this definitely reminded me of that!
From the tempura counter we ordered prawn tempura. Tempura is one of those dishes that looks deceptively easy and simple to make, but then again the simplicity means you have to get it right.

Our order of prawn tempura was excellent! The batter was really light and crisp and the prawns were a good size. The sauce was a bit bland, but other than that I really enjoyed this dish.
